Non-urgent advice: Notice

How do I get a blood test or x ray result?

Blood tests and X rays take approximately five days until they reach us and are viewed by your usual doctor.

Every day all blood tests and X rays which come into the practice that day are viewed by a designated doctor who will action and contact you if there is something in your blood test or X ray result which needs to be acted on that day before your own doctor sees the result. If you are not contacted by the designated doctor you can assume that your blood test or X ray is safe to be looked at and actioned by the doctor who sent you for the test.

Continuity of care for blood tests and X ray reports are important. The doctor who sent you for the test is most likely to understand what they are looking for in the results and how best to follow up the results.

Getting the result

The doctor or nurse who arranged the investigation will check with you how you would like to know the results for example by text, phone call or follow up appointment.

Once the results have been filed by the doctor who arranged the test they can be viewed on the NHS app with any comments that the doctor has made.
