Flu cases are increasing across the country, and hospitals are seeing a big rise in people needing care. We want to help you stay well and know what to do if you become unwell.

If you have symptoms:
If you start to feel unwell, please follow the NHS guidance:

How to reduce your chances of getting flu:
It is not too late to have a flu jab. The vaccine can reduce how ill you become and helps protect others in the community.
You can get the flu jab for FREE if:

  • – you are 65 or over, or
  • – you are at higher risk because of a condition such as diabetes, heart disease, or other long-term illnesses.
  • If you are not eligible for a free flu jab, many pharmacies provide flu vaccines at a low cost, and some employers will cover the cost for you.

How to check if you really have flu:
Flu-like symptoms are not always caused by the flu virus — they can be due to other viruses or even bacteria.
Our practice offers a free test through the Take-a-Test service. This test will tell you if you have flu or another virus.
You can request a nasal swab kit here:
https://takeatestuk.com/

Use voucher code: C84120

A test kit will be posted to you. After taking the swab, send it back in the prepaid envelope.
Your results will help the national flu monitoring programme. If the test shows you have flu (or another virus), you will receive a notification by phone within a few days, if it is negative you will receive a text message. You can find more information here: https://takeatestuk.com/faqs/
